(Ecoceanos News)– After constant protests and growing resistence against the environmental, sanitary and social salmon industry´s impacts, leaded by social movements, indigenous local communities, tourism entrepreneur and artisanal fishermen, the Chilean government has decided not to give more permission to set up new farmed salmon centers in Magellan region, south patagonia. .
Faced with this govermental decision, Antonieta Oyarzo, member of the regional Council of Magallanes declared that now we have to make progress in order to a greater control of the salmon companies in the region.

Meanwhile Kawesqar indigenous community of Puerto Natales has demanded “the paralyzation of all the permissions in process of new salmon industry concessions”.
The official government document (resolution N°3264 of October 28 of 2016, of Subpesca department) declares that: “are not available for the intensive industrial cultivation of salmon, all the areas used for the practice of aquaculture fixed in the Magallanes and the Chilean Antártica Region».
